Children’s
Hospital Boston and CompuCyte Corporation today announced the establishment of
an International Quantitative Imaging Cytometry Center of Excellence in Boston, to be jointly run by the two organizations. Under their agreement, Children’s
Hospital Boston and CompuCyte will create an educational resource focusing on
training programs and symposia for scientists using laser scanning cytometry in
cell- and tissue-based research. The Center represents an expansion of the
existing Centers of Excellence programs currently operating at Cold Spring
Harbor Laboratory in New York and the National University of Singapore.
Under the agreement, the Center will hold an annual
symposium devoted to advances in Quantitative Imaging Cytometry. The first
symposium is planned for August 2010 at Children’s Hospital Boston.
“The establishment of the QIC Center at Children’s Hospital
Boston is the outgrowth of productive collaborations between research teams in
the Longwood Medical Area and CompuCyte Corporation,” said Dr. Leslie
Silberstein, Director of the Joint Program in Transfusion Medicine and Center
for Human Cell Therapy at Children’s Hospital Boston. “We anticipate that the QIC Center, and the annual symposium in particular, will foster cross-disciplinary
collaborations employing quantitative image cytometry in a multiplicity of
cancer and stem cell research programs.”
“The creation of a worldwide network of QIC Centers has been
prompted by the rapidly expanding quantitative imaging cytometry network based
on CompuCyte’s laser scanning cytometry technology, and the growing number of
applications to which it is being applied, especially in the areas of cancer
and stem cell research,” said Dr. Elena Holden, CompuCyte’s President and CEO.
“The Boston area’s international reputation as an important hub of life science
research and education makes it a natural site for the Center’s operation, and
we are pleased to partner with Children’s Hospital Boston in this endeavor.”

the field of cellular research will guide the Center:
